NEGUS are going to play their last show in 2009 on Dec 5 at AllStars in Brampton. Check out the gig section for details.
Don't miss it - we dare to see you there for some pre-x-mas rock!
November 1, 2009
Next Sunday's show (November 8) has been turned into a full NEGUS show. After the fundraiser event was cancelled due to logistical difficulties, The Oakwood Place has now chosen to present NEGUS live. We will have a local special guest who is going to be announced very shortly.
FYI Music will be running a 2 part interview with Steve Negus formerly of Saga and his manager, George Roche, written by Lisa McDonald, our resident inquisitor. There are great inside stories about Saga and Steve’s new CD and time spent on the rock and roll frontlines, and a discussion of he and George’s latest project, which will be of interest to every musician that reads this site. The interview will run Tuesday and Thursday of this week. Do not miss…
The weekend is over... and so is the Negus mini tour. Thanks to all who came out for the shows. It was nice to see so many friends. Many thanks to the photographers who captured the Negus band so well.
Special thanks to George Roche and Armand Faguy for doing an amazing job taking care of my big blue DW kit; to Steve Telford for providing easy transportation; to Brett for contributing his amp.
Also thanks to my band - the boys played great!
More special thanks to Mark Brewer at Image FM who did an awesome job on the simulcast on Monday.

Both the Hamilton Spectator and the View Magazine are publishing articles on me, the band and the upcoming shows in their papers today.
The interviews took place early this week, hence the cross reference to the Gage Park Festival.
Please keep in mind that this festival was cancelled and we are now headlining the Saturday of the Fix Your World Festival on September 5.
The other gigs are listed below under the Sep 1 update.
See you soon,
September 2, 2009
Never a dull moment in the NEGUS camp!
We have just been added last minute to headline Saturday, September 5, at the Fix Our World Festival at the Hamilton Waterfront. If you were planning on coming out on Friday, why not just adjust plans and catch NEGUS live on Saturday instead! NEGUS will hit the stage at 10:00pm.
We're looking forward to seeing you there - the weather is supposed to be great, too!
I have good news and bad news. We are in rehearsal and all is going very well. The bad news is....the Gage Park Labor Day weekend festival (Sep 4-7) has been cancelled. So, our show on Friday, September 4th is not happening. Myself and the band are extremely disappointed... (that is an understatement!) We were really looking forward to this show.
There are still two more opportunities to catch NEGUS live this week(end):
- Thursday, September 3 at This Ain't Hollywood
345 James Street North, Hamilton - Doors: 9PM, Show: 10PM
- Sunday, September 6 at Rock and Roll Heaven,
1660 O'Connor Drive, Toronto for 'Rock for Children's Wish'
11:45PM (late headliner)
- Monday, September 7, you can watch NEGUS perform
at a live webcast on www.imagefm.ca
We will start at 3:00pm and you can talk to the band in the live chat.
We hope to see you out there!

Friday night Nicole and I went to Etobicoke to see Fludd play.
That is the first time I had seen the band since the version of Fludd that I was part of in 1976.
It was great to see Ed and Steve and Barb Pilling well as many other Pilling friends and family at the gig and I sat in and played "Cousin Mary"....first time in about 32 years!!
[ Special thanks to Cheryl Eckler for the video ]
I told Ed that we would be playing "What an Animal" at the upcoming festival at Gage Park on September 4th and he has offered to guest with the Negus band and sing that song!!
What a nice treat that will be for all at the show and for the Negus band as well.
Hope to see everyone there!!

I am extremely pleased to announce that the Negus band will be headlining a show in Hamilton at the Gage Park Bandshell on Friday September 4th at 9:00 P.M. for the Hamilton Labour Day Festival.
We will be playing music from the "Dare to Dream" CD as well as some faves from my past... Saga, Chris de Burgh and Fludd. The show is scheduled for 90 minutes but, who knows... we may play all night if they let us!
Hope to see you there,
August 12, 2008
Finally, I have a chance to sit down and write about the shows that the Negus band did last weekend.
Wednesday night, the 6th of August found the band driving overnight to Thunder Bay, a 20 hour
excursion north. We left Hamilton around midnight and caught the ferry at Tobermory at 7:00am.
After the ferry another 12 hours of driving and Ian, Kelly, Matt and I arrived in Thunder Bay and went straight to the club for sound check. Al lives there so he didn't do the drive with us.
The Outpost is a club on campus at Lakehead University... nice setup, good size stage and two very competent techs. Sound check went well.
We played an hour and a half set the next night to a small but very supportive audience.
Here is the set list:
Catch My Fall
What an Animal (Fludd)
Dare to Dream
Don't Pay the Ferryman (Chris de Burgh)
Body and Soul
Don't be Late
No Heaven, No Hell
Wind him up
On the Loose
Saturday was a day off and we stayed in Thunder Bay.
Sunday, we did the three hour drive to Geraldton for the Jamboree festival (Geraldton is east and north of Thunder Bay).
It was a lovely sunny day and on the way up, we saw a moose on the side of the road. That was really cool!!
We were on first so we got a good sound check.
The staff that ran the festival were very well organized and a complete pleasure to deal with. Special thanks to Scott, our contact and Dan and Mike from the sound company.
They made the whole event a complete pleasure.
After our show, we hung out with Helix and April Wine... here are some pictures taken that night.
We left at 9:00am to drive back and got back to Hamilton 4:30am the next morning.
Now you know why it took me a week to write this!
Enjoy the pics!
June 24, 2008
I am happy to announce that I will be playing some shows with my band in August.
We have just finished rehearsals for The Outpost on August 1st in Thunder Bay, Ontario and the Geraldton Jamboree in Geraldton with Helix and April Wine on Sunday August 3rd.
Hope to see you all there!!!

Christmas Eve, 2007
I guess it is that time again for a little reflection on the year's past events.
One thing's for sure, we're all another year older and hopefully wiser than we were this time last year.
There were good moments and not so good moments.
Most of us will remember the good ones and forget the others.
My son Stephen is now taller than me! "Dare to Dream" is complete, and now it is time to get the Negus band on the road.
So, thank you once again to all of the very loyal supporters out there, a very Merry Christmas to all, and Nicole and I wish everyone the best in 2008!
Steve has signed a record deal with Cyclone Records to release his new solo CD "Dare to Dream".
"I have every confidence in label owner Brad Trew's abilities to represent my best interests with the release of my first solo CD "Dare to Dream" and subsequent releases. I see this relationship as a long term commitment on both of our parts to bring my music to the people. I am delighted to have Brad and his team as part of the Negus extended family."
The Dare to Dream Limited Edition CD is NOW AVAILABLE!! Those who have pre-ordered should have received an email by now. If you would like to order your personalized copy, see the Shop page.

It seems that Saga has decided to use Chris Sutherland from Kim Mitchell's band to play drums on the upcoming tour. It was very strange that they knew this last night when I played with them in Brantford, Ontario, but neglected to tell me.
I wish Chris all the best with the tour, and I am sorry that I won't see all the loyal supporters on this one, but I hope to be touring in Europe with my new band soon!
Regards to all and best wishes to Brian Doerner.
Midnight, Monday, October 8, 2007
I just read on Michael Sadler's forum that Brian won't be playing on the Saga European tour that starts in a couple of weeks.
At this time, we have only discussed me playing the two shows, Toronto and Brantford (tonight). Let's wait and see what the band has in mind. Details as they happen.
All the best,
October 6, 2007
Negus rejoins Saga for Canadian dates!
It seems that Steve has been asked to fill in for Brian on the Canadian dates which include Jeff Healey's Roadhouse in Toronto on Saturday the 6th and Jackhammers in Brantford on Tuesday the 9th. Brian's availability for the European dates to be announced as information becomes available.
Steve is looking forward to playing with the boys for Michael Sadler's farewell tour.
August 30, 2007 On August 18th, the Negus band had their first show in Dorset Ontario.
The whole band went up to a forty seven acre resort on Lake Kawagama just outside of Dorset Ontario. We rehearsed about 12 hours a day all week and then played a two hour show on the Saturday. It was a wonderful week!
Special thanks to the dedication of my band:
Ian Nielson on bass, keys and vocals, Kelly Kereliuk on guitar and vocals, Matt Whale on keys and vocals, and of course, Al Langlade singing and playing guitar and keys.
The show consisted of some Saga songs, a song from Fludd, a song from Chris de Burgh, a song from the GNP CD, and all of the songs from the new Dare to Dream CD.
Special guest Tony Aquino came up and sang a duet with Al, (In Your Eyes from the GNP CD - a special dedication to Robbie Rae who passed away last year).
The band is eager to start touring and I am just in the process of putting that together.
August 27, 2007 Unfortunately the festival in Hamilton on Monday September 3rd has been postponed, so there will be no performance in Hamilton with the new band on that date. New dates will be posted when they are booked.
August 8, 2007 The Dare to Dream CD is done, just waiting for the artwork to be printed. The new band is together and we play our first gig August 18th, in Dorset Ontario. There are a few tickets available still. Send email for details. The band, Ian Nielsen on bass, Kelly Kereliuk on guitar, Matt Whale on keys, Al Langlade on vocals and guitar, and yours truly on drums.
The t-shirts, hats, and golf shirts are also ready and the e-commerce for those and the CDs will be up shortly. Also, more good news, the second gig, Monday September 3rd,
in Hamilton at Bayfront park. Only fitting, considering that was my farewell gig with Saga four years ago. That is the latest...more to follow as usual.
All the best,
